Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken a significant diplomatic step by announcing the suspension of diplomatic coordination with Israel, following the tragic death of seven aid workers in Gaza reportedly by the occupation forces, as reported by Israeli media.
According to news agencies, official sources revealed that the Emirati foreign ministry expressed outrage with the Israeli ambassador Amir Hayek over the incident. Efforts to address the crisis are underway, with Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, engaging in a phone call with his Emirati counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed. Additionally, Director General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Yaakov Blitshtein, met with Ambassador Mohammed Mahmoud Al-Khaja in an attempt to find a resolution.
Ambassador Al-Khaja described the current state of affairs as “the darkest day in the relations between the countries,” underscoring the severity of the situation. The reported suspension of diplomatic ties highlights the UAE’s strong response to the incident.
The UAE’s decision comes as a notable development, particularly considering its participation in the US-brokered Abraham Accord deals to normalize ties with Israel in September 2020.
