Islamabad: Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz have surrendered before the Islamabad Accountability Court, which has withdrawn the perpetual arrest warrants against them in three NAB references, including the Avenfield case. The court has also granted them bail.
The proceedings unfolded during a hearing in which the accountability court entertained appeals from Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, seeking the annulment of their arrest warrants issued in Flagship, Al-Azizia, and Avenfield references. Both fugitives appeared before Judge Nasir Javed Rana, surrendering themselves as per the court’s directives.
The court suspended their warrants when their lawyer argued that they were scheduled to return to the country on March 12. Both arrived in Pakistan on the designated date and appeared in court two days later.
Following the submissions, the Accountability Court, after due deliberation, decided to cancel the arrest warrant against Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, approving their bail upon submission of a surety bond worth Rs. 50,000. Additionally, the court granted the accused exemption from attending the next hearing, adjourning proceedings until the following day.
It is worth noting that Nawaz Sharif’s sons, Hassan and Hussain, had been avoiding the courts since their involvement in corruption cases dating back to 2017.
Hassan and Hussain Nawaz returned home after seven years on March 12, marking a significant development in their legal saga.
During conversations with journalists at the Islamabad Judicial Comple they were questioned about their past statements. Hassan Nawaz stated that they had never claimed not to be Pakistani citizens. He asserted that the events surrounding them were apparent to all, stating that the political vendetta against them began on October 12, 1999, when they were exiled without any legal basis.
