Lahore: PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has declared that the party intends to challenge the Peshawar High Court’s decision to revoke its election symbol of ‘bat’ in the Supreme Court.
According to sources addressing media representatives outside Adiala Jail, PTI leader Barrister Gohar stated that the Peshawar High Court’s decision to revoke our election symbol has been given in haste and that PTI will file an appeal against it in the Supreme Court.
He mentioned that the Supreme Court has said that taking back the election symbol from a political party is equivalent to ending the party.
Despite the potential loss of its symbol, Barrister Gohar affirmed the party’s commitment to participating in the elections. He said that PTI would appear in court tomorrow, expressing confidence in the court’s decision-making.
Gohar emphasized that the nation would not accept the elections if PTI’s bat symbol was withdrawn and expressed concerns about the transparency of elections, stating that if the court does not reinstate PTI’s election symbol, the party would participate in the election as independent candidates which will lead to a loss of democracy, a parliamentary defeat, and economic damage due to unfair elections.
It is noteworthy that earlier, the Peshawar High Court accepted the Election Commission of Pakistan’s plea, lifting its previous stay order and affirming the annulment of the PTI’s intra-party poll and the withdrawal of its bat symbol.
