Rawalpindi: Shan Masood, the Test captain of the Pakistan national cricket team, has designated Sarfaraz Ahmed as his first-choice wicketkeeper for the series against Australia.
During a press conference in Rawalpindi, newly appointed Test captain Shan Masood stated that Sarfaraz Ahmed showcased an excellent performance in the last home series against New Zealand. He mentioned that Sarfaraz Ahmed, being a settled wicketkeeper-batsman, is in a secure position in the team.
“Sarfaraz was player of the series in the last home series against New Zealand. He also performed well in Sri Lanka and secured his spot in the team. He is the settled wicketkeeper in this team,” he said.
Referring to Mohammad Rizwan’s potential need as a batter, highlighting his outstanding track record in Australia, Shan said that as a batter he could be part of the Playing XI.
“We might require Rizwan as a batsman. His track record is fantastic in Australia. He was one of the top scorers when we last toured Australia for Test matches,” Shan said.
Shan Masood also mentioned the consideration of an additional spinner and emphasized making the final decision based on playing conditions. Shan Masood acknowledged the need to assess the pitch and mentioned the possibility of including a batter instead of a spinner based on the conditions.
