Karachi: The Chief Executive Officer of Jasarat newspaper, Professor Dr. Muhammad Wasay, has been elected as a trustee of the World Federation of Neurology.
It is noteworthy that Professor Dr. Muhammad Wasay is the first neurologist in Pakistan to be appointed to any position within the executive committee of the World Federation of Neurology.
Currently, Professor Dr. Muhammad Wasay is a Professor of Neurology at Aga Khan University in Karachi. He also serves as the President of the Neurology Awareness and Research Foundation. Before this, he held the position of President of the Pakistan Society of Neurology and the Pakistan Stroke Society. He is also a distinguished scholar in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
Dr. Wasay has also provided his services as the Director of the World Stroke Organization (WSO). He is currently serving as a Fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and Secretary of the Environmental Neurology Specialty Group (ENSG). He is also a member of the Global Policy Committee of the World Stroke Organization, and he was recently elected as a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
Professor Dr. Muhammad Wasay has been awarded the “Advocacy Leader of the Year” award by the American Academy of Neurology. He has established a network for training and research in neurology in Kenya, Tanzania, Afghanistan, and Central Asia.
These days, he is actively involved in leading efforts to establish the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Neurology Academy for professional neurology training in developing Islamic countries. In his capacity as Secretary of the Environmental Neurology Specialty Group (ENSRG), he has been actively engaged in various educational and awareness activities related to environmental and neurological diseases.
Under his supervision, more than fifty neurologists have received training, and he has published over 238 research papers in various international medical journals. Furthermore, Dr. Muhammad Wasay has been honored with numerous awards, including the Teacher’s Recognition Award from the American Academy of Neurology, the Gold Medal from the Pakistan Academy of Medical Sciences, the Gold Medal from the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, and the Research Productivity Awards from the Pakistan Council of Science and Technology. He has participated as an invited speaker at more than 130 conferences in 73 countries.
