Islamabad: Pakistani Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has recently stirred controversy with her stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict. While she called for an immediate ceasefire, her comments were met with diverse reactions from social media users.
In her statement on the social media platform ‘X’ she said “I join the call for an immediate ceasefire. As I have processed the tragic news of the past few days, I think of the Palestinian and Israeli children caught in the middle. I am grieving for all the children and people longing for peace and justice in the Holy Land.”
Some individuals commended Malala for her neutral stance, emphasizing the importance of advocating for peace without taking sides in this deeply entrenched conflict. However, a substantial portion of social media users criticized her for her double standards. An ‘X’ user called her a hypocrite stating “Bold and clear stance against Russians from Malala but now she’s being such a hypocrite and refusing to condemn Israel, disappointed but not surprised”.

Many other users questioned her for not explicitly condemning Israel, contending that her position implied support for the oppressor, and many critics pointed out that this pretentious neutralism of Malala falsely equates the colonized and the colonizer as if they are the same.
