Hyderabad: Former Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden has stated that Islam plays a significant role in maintaining discipline both on and off the field for the current Pakistan cricket team.
Matthew Hayden expressed these views while commenting during the World Cup warm-up match between Pakistan and Australia in the Indian city of Hyderabad.
He said, “Well it is very focused around Islam, which is a central and core thing to this playing unit. The way of life in the Pakistan team leads to greater discipline, which I greatly admire, after all, cricket is a discipline as well.”.
The former Australian cricketer mentioned, “You have to be committed, invested, and consistent – these are all those things that Islam represents to the culture.”
It is worth noting that Pakistan lost their second warm-up match against Australia by 14 runs, as the national team couldn’t achieve the target of 352 runs.
The official start of the event is on October 5th, with defending champions England and New Zealand facing off against each other. Pakistan will play their first match in the event against the Netherlands on October 6th.
