Karachiites to Face Over 10 Rupees Increase in Electricity Rates

Islamabad: The caretaker government is preparing to increase electricity rates by 10 rupees and 32 paisas per unit for the residents of Karachi A petition filed in NEPRA has requested an increase in three different quarterly adjustments for 2022-23.

According to the government’s request submitted to Nepra, an increase of 47 paisas per unit is sought for the three-month adjustment period from October to December 2022, while a request for a 4.45 rupees per unit increase is made for the quarterly adjustment from July to September 2022.

The petition filed with Nepra states that the collections should be made in September and October 2023, and the impact of the quarterly adjustment from April to June should also be applied to electricity charges. It should be noted that the increase in the quarterly adjustment from April to June ranges from 5 rupees and 40 paisas per unit. Nepra will conduct a hearing on the government’s request on September 11th.
