IMF Rejects Caretaker Government’s Relief Plan for Electricity Bills

Islamabad: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has rejected the relief plan for electricity bills. According to official sources, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has rejected the relief plan for electricity bills sent by the caretaker Pakistani government The report, citing sources from the Ministry of Finance, has revealed that the IMF, while rejecting the government’s approved plan, has stated that this initiative will have an impact of more than 15 billion rupees instead of 6 billion rupees, as previously estimated in the proposal sent by Pakistan.

IMF has also requested a plan to fulfill the 15 billion rupee fiscal space. According to sources, a plan will be shared with the IMF again, which is causing delays. Once the new plan is shared, IMF officials and the Ministry of Finance will engage in further discussions.

To provide relief in electricity bills, the IMF has been assured that it will not go over budget. A request has also been made to the IMF to collect payments for electricity bills within 4 months. According to sources, discussions will be held with the IMF regarding the installment plan for bill payments.
