Islamabad: “General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), made a strong call to action, urging the United Nations (UN) and the Security Council to actively engage in resolving the longstanding Kashmir issue. This appeal was voiced during a significant high-level meeting convened to assess preparations for the upcoming ministerial meeting of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission. General Asim Munir participated as a special guest during the concluding session of this meeting, which was jointly organized by Pakistan and Japan, with a primary focus on enhancing the protection and security of peacekeeping missions.
The gathering witnessed the participation of delegates representing various nations and members of the diplomatic community, including senior United Nations officials. In his address to the audience, General Asim Munir highlighted the escalating challenges and threats faced by peacekeeping forces worldwide. He also lauded the indispensable role played by the United Nations in the restoration of global peace and stability.
He said Pakistan wants a region where peace prevails, where trade, transit, and investment become a source of prosperity for all states of South Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
He said that the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations should play their role in accordance with the Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people for a peaceful solution.
Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani paid tribute to all brave young men and women, including 171 Pakistanis, who have sacrificed their lives for the great cause of peace. He emphasized the need to ensure a secure environment for the peacekeepers of the United Nations in the world.
