Islamabad: Former Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani has emerged as a strong contender for the position of caretaker prime minister.
According to details, Jalil Abbas Jilani, hailing from the influential Gilani family in Multan, is being considered a viable candidate for the role of caretaker prime minister. The connections within the Gilani family, including his relation to former Chief Justice Tasdeeq Hussain Gilani and his proximity to former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, are contributing to the strong possibility of Jalil Abbas Jilani’s name being approved for the position.
Sources stated that the Pakistan Peoples Party has put forward two names for the caretaker prime minister, one of which is former Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, while the other is former Chief Justice Tasdeeq Hussain Jilani.
It is notable that Jalil Abbas Jilani is a Pakistani diplomat who served as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States and was also previously the Foreign Secretary from March 2012 to December 2013. On the other hand, Tasdeeq Hussain Jilani held the position of Chief Justice of Pakistan from December 11, 2013, to July 5, 2014. Jalil Abbas Jilani has served as the Foreign Secretary and Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States.
