Rare Indus Dolphin Shot Dead by Unknown Individuals in Balochistan

Karachi: Unidentified armed individuals within the borders of Balochistan shot and killed a rare blind Indus dolphin. According to Javed Maher, the conservator of Sindh Wildlife, a tragic incident occurred where the blind dolphin, which had strayed into Balochistan after losing its way in the Indus River, was shot and killed.

The Sindh Wildlife Rescue Team was informed of the presence of the rare Indus dolphin in Sindh’s Syed Riayat area by the Inhar Department officials. Upon reaching the location, the rescue team found that the body of the dolphin had two gunshot wounds and it was female.

As per Javed Maher, the blind dolphin had entered Balochistan’s borders through the Kirthar Canal, which leads to Gang Regulator from Sukkur Barrage. The unidentified armed individuals shot and killed the dolphin. It should be noted that the Kirthar Canal is used to transfer water into Balochistan’s borders. The deceased Indus dolphin was approximately between 16 to 20 months old.

Authorities have indicated that they are in contact with the Balochistan Wildlife Department, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
