Imran Khan Jailed for 3 years, Banned from Politics for 5 years in Toshakhana Case

Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been arrested at his residence in Lahore following his conviction in the Toshakhana case. In a significant development, a district and sessions court found the former prime minister guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison. Rejecting Khan’s petition to dismiss the case, Judge Dilawar ruled in favor of the prosecution, stating that charges of misdeclaration of assets against PTI chairman had been proven. Not only did Khan receive a three-year jail term, but he was also fined Rs100,000 and banned from politics for 5 years. This verdict prompted the police to apprehend Khan immediately after the court ruling.

The trial court in Islamabad has gone a step further by disqualifying Imran Khan from participating in politics for five years and imposing a ban on his political activities. Additionally, the court has fined him Rs100,000, following the directions of the Pakistan High Court. Following the announcement of the verdict, Khan’s residence in Lahore was surrounded by the police. This latest legal setback adds to the numerous cases Khan is currently facing.

The specific Toshakhana case accuses Khan of illegally buying and selling state gifts during his time as prime minister, with the alleged transactions taking place between 2018 and 2022. The total value of the gifts amounts to more than Rs140 million Pakistani rupees, and government officials claim that Khan’s aides sold these assets in Dubai.
