The first session of the Karachi City Council witnessed a tumultuous scene as opposition members engaged in intense sloganeering and even resorted to physical altercations. Representatives from Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and PTI Forward Bloc came face to face during the session. The chaos erupted during the speech of Asad Umar, the parliamentary leader of the PTI Forward Bloc.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman, the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi and a council member, raised slogans inside the assembly hall. In response, Karachi’s Mayor, Murtaza Wahab, remarked that time will reveal who has resolved issues and who has created them, and everyone is witnessing who is disrupting the environment.
During this incident, Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman stated that it is the first session and already the rules are being violated. Members of Jamaat-e-Islami had black bands tied around their arms and held banners “Give Karachi Its Rights” during the session.
