MOHALI: Sheer classy inning of Virat Kohli, takes India to ICC World Twenty20 2016 semifinals after beating Australia by 6 wickets at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.
Australian skipper Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bat first on a flat batting wicket.
Opening pair Usman Khuwaja and Aron Finch took a good positive start and with Usman Khuwaja’s 26 and Finch’s 43, Australia had a nice ans steady start.
But, Ashwin and Jadeja bowled really nice in middle over to halt the scoring rate.
It would have been 145-150 target, had Maxwell not contributed with his 31 off 32 and Nevill’s 10 off last two balls, took Australia to 160.
India in reply, lost their openers early. But, it was the best batsman of the world- Virat Kohli, who kept his nerves and took the game longer to finish in style. His 82 off just 51 balls, India won the thriller by 6 wickets with 5 balls still remaining.
