Wahab Riaz, Ahmed Shehzad fined for altercation

SHARJAH: Wahab Riaz and Ahmed Shehzad were fined with 40 per cent and 30 per cent of their match fees respectively for ‘inappropriate physical contact’ during a match between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators on Sunday.

A statement issued by PCB stated “Wahab & Shehzad have been asked to behave as such incidents hamper image of Pakistan cricket, as millions are watching PSL.”

The altercation took place after Ahmed Shehzad sent the first ball of Wahab’s spell over the boundary for a six before getting bowled on the next ball.

TV replays showed Wahab provoking Shehzad by passing on ‘inappropriate’ comments, to which the batsman reacted by colliding into the bowler, crossing a fine line between intense competition and unacceptable behaviour.

The scuffle was, however, neutralized on the spot.

Match referee Roshan Mahnama issued a warning and fined both the players for violating clause 2.2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play”.
