Sheikh Ansar Aziz elected as first mayor of Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Candidate of Pakistan Muslime League – Nawaz (PML-N) Sheikh Ansar Aziz elected as mayor of Islamabad, TheNewsTribe.com reported.

The elections  held through secret ballot and the polling continued till 5pm without any break,” Radio Pakistan quoted an Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) spokesperson as saying.

Further, the PML-N’s nominees for deputy mayors of Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) are Chaudhry Riffat Javed, Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi and Muhammad Azam Khan while the PTI candidates for deputy mayors are Fouzia Arshad, Raja Zulqarnain and Ali Nawaz Awan.

Name of deputy mayor will be announced soon.

The IMC comprises 50 elected UC chairmen and 27 members on reserved seats. The PML-N has won 18 seats of the 27 reserved seats, with PTI taking the other nine.
