ISLAMABAD: : Polling underway for the first ever Local Government (LG) elections in federal capital on Monday.
Polling began at 7:00 a.m. and continue till 5:30 p.m without any break.There are over 676,000 registered voters.
2400 candidates are vying for the seats of chairman, vice chairman and councilors. Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure security during the elections.
625 Army troops and 700 personnel of Rangers besides police will be deployed in the capital for the purpose. 1000 FC personnel would also help maintain law and order during polling.
The Election Commission has also set up a control room for the Local Government Elections in Islamabad.
It has been notified that all government departments including Federal ministries located in Islamabad Capital Territory, will be closed at 2.00 p.m. on Monday to enable the employees to cast their votes, in ICT local government elections
