ISLAMABAD: A petition has been registered in the Supreme Court against Premier Nawaz Sharif for giving his speech at the 70th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in English last month.

According to details, Petition has been filed to highest court level in Pakistan by Mian Zahid Ghani, in his petition he plead that Nawaz Sharif had disrespected the September 8 Supreme Court verdict in which it ordered the federal and provincial governments to use, without any delay, Urdu for official and other purposes.

He was of the opinion that heads of other states, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Sushmita Swaraj, Cuban President Raul Castro, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had addressed the same UN meeting using their national languages.

It is to be kept in mind that Supreme Court on September 8 this year ordered to adopt Urdu as an official language immediately but PM Nawaz delivered his UN speech in English language.
