ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday has permitted the voters with expired National Identity Cards (NIC) to vote in the NA-122, Lahore, by-polls.
According to sources from ECP, the voters will not be allowed to cast their vote on photocopy of NIC and token issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). They have also ordered the returning officers not to accept a photocopy of the NIC or passport from voters as valid proof.
The voters can get information about their vote and polling stations through sending sms at 8300 before leaving home to cast their vote.
The ECP has started distributing machinery for re-elections, while Pakistan Army and Rangers would be deployed in and around the polling stations for security.
The by-election will be held in NA-122, Lahore on October 11, and some sources have revealed that this decision from ECP will be applicable in other constituencies where by-polls are going to take place
