Pakistan to commemorate Defence Day with national fervour

ISLAMABAD: A Committee Constituted by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for preparation of 50th Anniversary of Defense Day i.e. 6th September 1965, decided to commemorate the event nationwide with national fervour and enthusiasm.

The decision was taken in the meeting of the committee which was held under the Chairmanship of Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Defence. Other members of the committee included Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for IB & NH, Abdul Qadir Baloch, Minister for SAFRON, Raja Hasan Abbas, Secretary Cabinet and Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Alam Khattak, Secretary Defence.

The meeting decided that special events would be organized to pay rich tribute to the martyrs of 1965 war as they were the great heroes and our benefactors who laid down their lives for the defence of motherland. It was further decided that the entire nation would also commemorate their valour and courage and pay homage to their families and those ghazis who returned victorious to the homeland.

Apart from commencing the day with special prayers in the mosques for peace and prosperity of the country, the Cabinet Ministers will also be visiting the graves of the martyrs and would offer fateha. Every Pakistani who sacrificed his life for the sake of the country no matter which religion he belonged to or what creed or faith he had, would be hailed and remembered with reverence and respect, the committee decided.

Special programmes would also be organized to highlight the role of the poets, intellectuals, artists and singers who not only injected a new zeal and spirit among the soldiers but also promoted a sense of unity in the country during the course of war in 1965. In the meeting, it was also decided that the media would be appealed to play its due role in projecting the 50th anniversary of 6th September, 1965 in a befitting manner so that the awareness about the sacrifices of our brave soldiers and our forefathers are transferred to the next generation.

The Committee further decided to assign Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for I,B&NH to finalize the media strategy and coordination regarding the event.
