10 Amazing features you don’t know about iPhone

According to the unofficial date, there are about 100 million active mobile phones in Pakistan which belong to different brands. Nokia, Samsung, Apple iPhones, HTC and Qmobile are some of the popular mobile brands in Pakistan. The leading share (over 50 per cent) of the market is with QMobile with its Ultra Low Cost or ULC mobile phones.

However, over the time the purchasing behaviour of the country’s mobile phone consumers have changed. Over the past couple of years, regardless of prices, there has been a steady growth in smart phone demand in the country. In January 2013 it was recorded to be 13 per cent, 23 per cent in 2014 and in 2015 it subsequently reached to 31 per cent. Since last year, even the iPhone 5s & 6 have officially entered the Pakistani market. The main service providers like Ufone, Warid, Mobilink and Telenor have also launched iPhones under their umbrella.

iPhone is known for its numerous brilliant features, but, there are certain features and tricks which are not commonly known. Here are some of the special hidden features of the iPhone, which will allow to carry out different tasks at a faster pace. These tricks can be applied very easily and will also help to enhance the overall iPhone using experience.

  1. Stopping the iPhone music with a timer: Many people have the habit of listening to music while going to bed at night. Thus, people often fall asleep without switching off the music. But, this problem can easily be solved with a special feature in the iPhone. One can set a timer in the iPhone to shut down the music. This can be done by selecting “Timer” option under “Clock” app. Then opt for “When Timer Ends” option and scroll down to select “Stop Playing”. Then, finally set a timer (say, 1 hour) and tap on “Start”. This trick will even work for audiobook and other media.
  2. Shaking the iPhone to undo action: This an interesting and very helpful feature, which most of the users will not know. There are moments when people type a long sentence, but, accidentally delete it. At that point of time, if the iPhone is shaken a little, it can bring up the options of undo or redo. This feature often proves to be a life saviour. For the sake of safety, one should hold the iPhone firmly before giving it a shake.
  3. Deleting the last digit of the calculator: There is a time saving trick which can be easily applied in the calculator app. If a person types a long number and requires to delete the last digit of the number, he will not have to go on tapping on “delete”. Instead, he will just have to swipe the finger left or right of the number in order to clear it. Each of the swipe will delete the last digit of the number, until the number becomes zero.
  4. Adding symbols to messages: Usually users add symbols to messages by tapping on the 123 button and then again by tapping on the ABC button users get back to the letter keyboard. But, an alternative and easier method to do this, is to tap and hold the 123 button and slide the finger on the symbol which is required to be selected. Once the finger is removed from the 123 button after the symbol is added, the keyboard will automatically revert back to the letter keyboard.
  5. Typing Emoji by using shortcuts: There is an easy trick which can help the users to use Emoji without having to switch the virtual keyboards repeatedly. One will require to select Settings> General> Keyboard> Keyboards. Then choose “Emoji”option under “Add New Keyboard” option. Again, go to “Keyboard” option and select “Add New Shortcut”. Now, one requires to add the frequently used Emoji in “Phrase” and add a text in “Shortcut”, which can be used for converting Emoji.
  6. Making the flask blink when a message is received: Sometimes only the message tone or vibration fails to draw the user’s attention. Thus, in such cases, another element, i.e. LED flash can be added to the message alert. One can activate this feature, in the Settings and then selecting General> Accessibility. Then, one needs to choose the “LED Flash for Alerts” option under the “Hearing” option. Once this feature is activated, the flash next to the iPhone’s back camera will blink, every time a message enters. This feature has been specially designed for the hearing impaired people.
  7. Finding a word in a webpage: Users often try to search words on a web page. In Safari, one will have to type a word in the search bar which is located on the top right and tap the Search button. As a result of this, one will be able to find a list of words on the web page. Then again, he will require to tap on the searched word or phrase in order to get back to the web page with searched word or phrase that is highlighted in yellow.
  8. Filtering the groups that can reach the user: iPhone has this special “Do Not Disturb”feature. When required, the users can lock the iPhone and silence the calls, notifications and alerts. However, the user might not miss a few important calls from specific people. Users will get the option of creating a group under the “Do Not Disturb” option. Here, they can choose the people who they want to reach them even in “Do Not Disturb” mode.
  9. Turning off the “Read Receipts” in iMessage: The iMessages allow its users to send free texts, photos and videos to the users who have iOS 5 or above. The feature of “Read Receipts” allow the sender of the messages to see if their messages have been viewed or not. However, if the user does not wish the sender to see that, he can turn off this feature. One will have to choose, “Messages” under the “Settings” option. Then, the user will turn off the “Send Read Receipts” option.

10. Adding an extra protection to iPhone: One can consider adding a passcode in order to add an extra layer of protection in iPhone. The user will require to select Settings> General. Then he should opt for the “Passcode Lock” option and turn off the simple Passcode. Thus, once the simple passlock is turned off, the user will automatically get the option of entering an alphanumeric password.
