ISLAMABAD – Dazzling irregularities of financial and administrative nature have been found in Pakistan High Commission and its consulates in United Kingdom.
According to Dawn News, the audit report revealed enormous loss to the national treasury which also created inconvenience for the Pakistani expatriates living in UK.
Audit report traced irregularities of hundreds of thousands of British pounds including the disappearance of visa stickers and passports and renting out of building without prior permission and a requirement.
It also disclosed that there were serious anomalies in the revenue figures against passports registered at the Birmingham consulate over the issuance of visas which amounts a loss of Rs. 20 million.
The report pointed out “avoidable, unnecessary and wasteful expenditure” on the account of hiring accommodation for the then-High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hassan which amounted to 132,567 pounds.
Auditors also termed an expense of 57,138.75 pounds as irregular, in lieu of hiring vehicles for the former President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to London. A national wastage of 27,600 pounds has also been identified in Manchester Consulate on the account of hiring an unnecessary building.
The detailed audit report would be presented to the Parliament and would also be taken up by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
