KARACHI: Sindh government on Friday announced its opposition to the federal government’s decision to import LNG.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the Sindh government will challenge in Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) the federal government’s decision to import LNG.
Holding a press conference at CM House Karachi, Qaim Ali Shah said that Sindh produces 70% of the natural gas in Pakistan but it wasn’t consulted by the government in its decision to import gas. He said that the Sindh government wasn’t taken in confidence. “Formula of gas distribution and price determination was also not decided upon”, he said.
CM Sindh feared that the federal government would want to sell expensive LNG to Sindh government but resolved that he would never let that happen. He said that LNG import issue was raised in the Council of Common Interests but no response was received.
Provincial minister Murad Ali Shah said on this occasion that the federal government planned to mix the local gas with imported LNG and then sell it which will force the Sindh government to buy expensive gas. He said that the Sindh government would move to SCP against federal government over this injustice.
