Misbah, Waqar favour Azhar Ali for ODI captaincy

LAHORE: As the captaincy of ODI team of Pakistan is yet to come, head coach Waqar Younis and former skipper Misbah-ul-Haq have voted in favour of Azhar Ali for the captain’s spot.

The head coach, Waqar Younis, has suggested appointing middle order batsman Azhar Ali as the new skipper in his assessment report of the world cup 2015 performance.

Showing his anger over Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal and Muhammad Hafeez’s attitude, Waqar recommended board to give directives to them in this regard.

He further suggested not to include Umar Akmal, until he performs good in the domestic cricket.

Umar, with other team mates, scored only 164 runs in seven innings with highest score was 59.

On the other hand Misbah also nominated Azhar Ali for captaincy.

He was, even, not the part of world cup squad of the team. His last ODI match was against India in 2014 at Kolkata.

However, in the test format, he has been performing consistently. With a great average of 41.31 runs, he has scored 2851 runs in 39 test matches with seven centuries and 18, fifties.

Waqar has also suggested changing selection committee of the team.

He recommended appointing Inzimam ul Haq, Wicket keeper Wasim Bari or Rashid Latif as the chief selector.
