ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday announced schedule of local bodies elections in Sindh, Punjab and Islamabad.
According to the schedule announced by ECP, polling for LB polls in Sindh, Punjab and Islamabad will be held on September 20.
Candidates can submit nomination papers from June 8 to 10 while candidates can withdrawn their nomination paper by August 23 and final list will be issued on August 24, 2015.
According to ECP, the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be carried out from June 15 to June 20, and appeal against acceptance or rejection of nomination paper can be filed by June 24.
While the appeals will be decided by August 31, the commission said.
Meanwhile, Â the Supreme Court ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold local government elections in Punjab and Sindh in September this year.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court ordered that the ECP ensure the holding of LB polls while adhering to the schedule it has submitted to the apex court.
Today, a three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja presided over the hearing of LB polls case and directed ECP to hold the polls on Sept 25 in Islamabad and Sept 20 in Punjab and Sindh.
During the hearing, the court questioned ECP as to why LB elections have not been held for past 17 years in Cantonment boards, nine years in the provinces and five years in the capital.
