SC gives ECP 8pm deadline to submit LB polls schedule

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to submit the schedule of local bodies elections in Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and cantonment boards by 8:00 pm.

A three-judge  bench headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja expressed dismayed over ECP’s failure to submit the notification regarding schedule of local bodies election in three provinces and cantonment boards of the country.

The court directed the ECP to submit a schedule for the elections by 8:00pm today, warning that if the schedule appeared to be unsatisfactory the apex court would hear the case in the night.

During earlier hearing the court had reprimanded the provincial and federal government for dragging their feet on the issue of holding the much-needed local government elections.
