WELLINGTON: Tim Southe and Skipper Brandon McCullum destroyed England as New Zealand gain a comprehensive victory against English side.
Tim Southee started the carnage of England’s batting while skipper Brandon McCullum destroyed England’s bowling which allow New Zealand to gain a comfortable win by 10 wickets.
The hosts chased down the total in 12.2 overs. Brandon McCullum scored the fastest half century of the World Cup facing just 18 ball. He was bowled on 77 which he made facing 25 deliveries while Martin Guptill scored 22.
Chris Woakes picked up two wickets for the visitors.
England who had decided to bat first after winning the toss were destroyed by Tim Southee’s brilliant display of swing bowling finishing with 7 wickets for 33 in his nine overs, the best figures by a New Zealand bowler in One Day International (ODI) cricket.
Joe Root showed some resistance against New Zealand but failed to post a respectable total. He made 46 while no other batsman survived hosts bowling attack.
The English side all out on 123 runs with Southee star of the show with 7 wickets.
