Sohail Khan to be availbabe for match against India: PCB

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday said that fast bowler Sohail Khan will be available for Pakistan’s opening match of the mega event against arch-rival India on February 15 as his injury was not of serious nature.

A PCB spokesman said on Monday that the injury of young fast bowler Sohail Khan was of minor nature and the pacer will be available for the team against its crucial opening match of the mega event against arch-rival India.

It is to be mentioned here that on Monday fast bowler Sohail Khan was sidelined due to a calf problem during a warm-up game against Bangladesh.

The spokesman said that the pacer was called out from the ground as a precaution and the injury was not of serious nature. He will be fit for Pakistan opening match of the event, he added.

The 30-year-old, a surprise inclusion in the squad, bowled six overs and took one wicket before he walked off the field at Sydney’s Blacktown Olympic Park Oval.

Sohail injury comes amid frontline pacemen Umar Gul and Junaid Khan were forced out with knee and thigh problems, respectively and on Sunday, opener Mohammad Hafeez also withdrew from the 15-man squad with an ankle injury as fitness problems mount for the 1992 champions.

Though Pakistan ace spinner Seeed Ajmal’s remodelled action was declared legal by ICC on Saturday but the ruling came too late for his inclusion in Pakistan’s squad.

Paceman Rahat Ali and opener Nasir Jamshed have been given late call-ups and will join the squad on Wednesday.
