LHC dismisses NAB’s appeal to reopen corruption references against Shairf family

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday rejected National Accountability Bureau (NAB) request to reopen NAB refrences against Shairf family.

Referee judge of Lahore High Court (LHC) Justive Sardar Shamim ruled against reopening of NAB references against Shairf family.

Earlier,  NAB had file an appeal in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against closure of corruption references, Hudabia Paper Mills and Raiwind assets case, against the Sharif family by the accountability court.

An accountability court had court on September 20, 2014 had dismissed NAB’s plea of reopening the Sharif family cases on the base of an LHC judgement.

The corruption references pertaining to Hudaibia Paper Mills and Raiwind assets named Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, their deceased father Mian Muhammad Sharif, their mother Shamim Akhtar, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, PM’s wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, Hamza Shahbaz, Hussain Nawaz, Mian Abbas Sharif (late), Sabiha Abbas, Maryam Safdar and Hudaibia Paper Mills company secretary Syed Ajmal Sibtain as accused.

Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan was appointed as referee judge after Justice Sheikh Najamul Hassan refused to further proceed in the matter. Former chief justice Umar Ata Bandial had appointed Justice Hassan as a “referee judge” after a division bench dealing with the matter of the Sharif family at Rawalpindi bench came to a dissenting observation on a point of law.
