Police arrest alleged killer of Dr Shakeel Auj

KARACHI: Additional Inspector General of Police and chief of Karachi Police Ghulam Qadir Thebo on Wednesday claimed that police arrested the ‘killer’ of Dr Shakeel Aauj, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies Karachi University, who he said is claiming to be a worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

Addressing a press conference here,  Thebo said that the accused also confessed of firing on Rangers mobile and killing of another renowned scholar Professor Sibt-e-Jaffer.

He said that the high rate of targeted killings in Karachi’s District West was a cause of concerns for police.  He further said that police worked hard to trace and arrest the killers of Dr Aauj, as it was a high-profile case and police was constantly being criticised for it failure to arrest the killers.

Finally, he said, police succeeded in arresting the killer. Police arrest the alleged killer, Mansoor Ahmed, who is a resident of Liaqatabad and a ward bot at Sindh Government Hospital Liaqatabad, besides working as a motor mechanic. He said that five people were involved in the killing. Thebo said that the accused claimed to be the worker of MQM, however no one has so far owned him.

He revealed that the accused was also incilved in the killing of Prof. Sibt-e-Jaffer.
