CII proposes punishment over three consecutive declarations for divorce

ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Wednesday proposed that the practice of making divorce an act of three vocalised sentences be made an offence.

The CII proposed numerous resolutions on Wednesday, the final day of its convention which was chaired by Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani.

The convention was attended by religious experts, clerics, researchers and the 11 members of the council to hold discussion over 14 major issues of the country.

During the final session, Maulana Sherani proposed the pronouncement of three divorces at once to be recognised as a punishable offence in the country. The chairman declared on behalf of the council that three consecutive declarations of divorce was a un-Islamic act and against Shariah laws.

He added that the declaration of the sort of punishment should be left to respective courts.

Moreover, Maulana Sherani proposed that the female judges should be bounded to cover faces (Hijaab) in accordance to the principles of Shariah law.

While chairing the convention, the council rejected a bill regarding juvenile punishments via declaring it un-Islamic and inappropriate. CII demanded the government revise the bill and making new draft.

August 14 to be recognised as public holiday in Pakistan due to its national significance while the council made consensus to ban ‘Black Days’ and ‘Mourning Days’ regardless of any uncertain incident faced by whole nation.

CII demanded formulation of special ‘Code of Conduct’ by the Pakistan government to counter sectarian violence while discussions also held by the council members to promote interfaith harmony.
