Brett Lee announces retirement from cricket

SYDNEY: Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket formally ending his 20-year long career.

Lee already quitted internationals in July 2012 after becoming the country’s fourth-highest Test wicket-taker – with 310 in 76 matches. He emphasised to carry on in Twenty20 format cricket in recent years.

Lee was also considered amongst world’s fastest bowlers who delivered a ball at a speed of 161.1km/h or 100.10mph after Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar who has bowled fastest delivery officially recorded at a speed of 161.3 kph or 100.23mph.

Lee made the retirement announcement at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday (today) who took 380 wickets in his ODI career.

The 38-year-old cricketer said, ‘It’s been an amazing and emotional 20 years and I’ve enjoyed every single moment of it.’ “I’m excited and emotional, certainly happy that I’ve made the right decision,” Lee added.

He said, “I didn’t bother doing the maths but 20 years is a lot of ice baths, a lot of training sessions, a lot balls bowled and a lot of flights – but it’s given me so many great memories.”

However, the bowler would play in the Big Bash League with the Sydney Sixers which could be his final play against Sydney Thunder on next Thursday.
