PAT to hold countrywide protests over Model Town tragedy

LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Tuesday announced to hold countrywide anti-government protests over Model Town tragedy that left 14 party workers dead in clashes with police last year in June.

In a statement issued Tuesday, PAT leader Raheeq Abbasi said that his party would launch protest demonstrations from Lahore on January 17.

“We have showed so much patience on the tragedy, we will avenge the bloodshed of martyrs,” Abbasi said.

On June 16, 2014, a violent clash ensued between the Punjab Police and PAT workers in Model Town area of Lahore. At least eight PAT workers were killed and nearly 100 were injured in the clash.
