Unregistered cellphones likely to be banned in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued notices to imported cellphones dealers and renowned companies for the registration of all handsets via announcing a deadline ending up on January 15, local media reported on Tuesday.

Imported and refurbished handsets are likely to be banned across the country if companies and dealers failed to comply the PTA directions to register International Mobile Station Equipment Identity (IMEIs) within the given deadline date.

PTA has warned to follow orders by announcing 14-day deadline to the handsets companies and dealers importing mobile handsets in large numbers having fake IMEIs.

PTA announced to send violation cases to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) if handsets were not registered as per orders.

Renowned mobile companies that are reintroducing their handsets were also bounded for the registration of their refurbished cellphones which has been delcared ‘compulsory’.
