Many schools stay shut owing to inadequate security

LAHORE: Some schools and colleges stayed shut Monday across the country primarily because of inadequate security arrangements even after the end of extended winter vacations following the deadly Peshawar school attack last month.

Media reported quoting Lahore police that three private schools in Allama Iqbal Town and one in Gulberg were closed down by the city administration today as they failed to make proper security arrangements.

In addition, Defence Girls Degree College, Divisional Public School (Junior Section), Al Najaf Ideal High School located in Yakki Gate and Delhi Gate were also forced to shut.

Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhamamd Sarwar visited Aitchison School and College this morning and expressed displeasure over inadequate security arrangements.

Aitcheson School and College was ordered to shut for failing to take insufficient security measures. It would now reopen on January 19.

Meanwhile, winter vacations in Abbottabad’s government schools and colleges have been further extended till January 16.

In Sindh as well, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah visited various schools in the metropolis to review security arrangements.

On the occasion, Qaim Ali Shah said that O levels schools and missionary schools in Karachi are facing more serious threats.

He said that police would patrol in the areas surrounding schools while rangers would be deployed outside the schools, which are facing serious threats.

Sindh Education Minister Nisar Khoro was also accompanying the chief minister.
