LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari directed the Chief Minister of Sindh to hold high-level investigation into the Link Road accident which claimed at least 62 lives followed by passenger bus-oil tanker collision on Sunday’s midnight.
Asif Ali Zardari telephoned CM Sindh Qaim Ali on Sunday (today), asked him to hold high-level probe into incident on Link Road of Karachi. He announced Rs200,000 financial aids for the families of the victims.
Earlier, Death toll of horrific bus-oil tanker collision has risen up to 62 while authorities fear for increase in casualties as most the dead bodies were found beyond recognition.
At least 62 persons including nine women and some children were killed when a Shikarpur-bound bus crashed into an oil tanker which was travelling in the wrong direction on linking road of National Highway and Super Highway Karachi.
The collided vehicle ignited a fierce blaze due to gas cylinder and oil which burnt alive dozens of the passengers except few who pulled themselves out by breaking window glasses. Eye witnesses said that only three passengers of the bus succeeded to came out of the bus.
Police said that bus boarded with 55 passengers including women and children. It is feared that most of the passengers of the bus have burnt alive. The bodies have been shifted to the Jinnah Hospital Karachi.
People living near the road who rushed to the spot after accident alleged that fire brigade did not reach the spot on time. Rescuers said that most of the bodies even not recognisable as they burnt severely. Eyewitnesses also said that the accident took place by negligence of oil tanker driver. The bus was entirely damaged and burnt in the accident.
Governor Sindh Ishrat Ul Ebad has taken notice of the accident and ordered complete investigation into the accident. He also expressed grief over loss of human lives in the accident.
Information Minister Sindh Sharjeel Memon also expressed grief over loss of many lives. The minister has directed administrator Karachi and other concerned officials to reach on the accident spot.
