Al-Qaeda commander, six terrorists killed in Karachi

KARACHI: At least seven suspected terrorists including local commander of Al-Qaeda were killed during search operation of police conducted in Sohrab Goth area of Karachi here on Thursday.

According to details, SSP Rao Anwar said that terrorists had been planning for major terrorist incident in the city. The police launched immediate operation on the information of presence of Al-Qaeda commander, saying that terrorists started firing when police cordoned off the area and started door to door search operation.

Rao Anwar claimed that police killed seven suspected terrorists include banned Al-Qaeda local commander while banned Tehreek-Taliban-Pakistan (TTP) commander Arshad Ullah Alias Nayaz wounded in the search operation and he succeeded to flee from the place. He said police started house to house search operation for the arrest of wounded commander but police could not succeed; meanwhile police arrested six suspected persons from the area. The search operation of police continued for one and half hour.

More than 500 police personnel and commandoes took part in the major operation.  No police cop was killed or wounded in the operation, he said.

He further said that operation is continuing at Madina Colony and adjoining areas while police also summoned bomb disposal squad.

According to sources, Arshad Ullah is Ameer of banned Tehreek- Taliban-Pakistan (TTP) of Sindh.

Police did not issue any details regarding the killing of suspected terrorists. Meanwhile the identity of the killed terrorists has been disclosed.
