Missing QZ8501 and MH370 planes: What we know

JAKARTA: An AirAsia flight QZ-8501 for Singapore with reportedly 162 passengers on board lost contact with control tower at 07:24hrs (local time) this morning just reminded the sorrowful incident of Malaysian aircraft MH-370 that also still ‘missing’ since March 8, 2014.

Destinations:

MH370 was flying from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia to Beijing Capital International Airport, People’s Republic of China as both accidents similarly caused on different spots but in Asia continent.

QZ8501 left Juanda International Airport at 5:27 a.m. Sunday (5:27 p.m. Saturday ET) and was due to arrive in Singapore at 8:37 a.m. Sunday (7:37 p.m. ET), according to the website. 

Passengers:

At least 227 passengers and 12 crew members were on board on the Malaysian MH370 flight while AirAsia took off with 155 passengers and 6 crew members.

Days and Dates:

Malaysian Airlines MH370 gone missed on Saturday (March 8, 2014) while Indonesia’s AirAsia QZ-8501 on December 28, 2014.

Last contacts with control towers:

MH370’s last voice contact ‘All right good night’ with air traffic control was made at 01:19 MYT (17:19 UTC, 7 March) while QZ8501 lost contact at 07:24hrs (local time).

Last areas of presence on radar:

MH370 was last seen on radar over the South China Sea reportedly in the Gulf of Thailand less than an hour after takeoff then suddenly vanished at 01:21 MYT (17:21 UTC).

QZ8501 was last contacted to ask changing its defined path towards ‘unusual route’ before it lost contact with the Jakarta air traffic control tower at 6:17 a.m local time. (6.17 p.m. EST) which was due to be landed at 08:30 in Singapore. Some unofficial reports said that the plane believed to be lost contact over Java Sea between Kalimantan and Java Islands.
