JI opposes establishment of military courts

ISLAMABAD: Jamaat Islami (JI) on Tuesday opposed establishment of the military courts during session of National Action Committee Plan (NAPC).

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan while chairing the session of the committee submitted a draft of the recommendations of the working group comprising of 18 points.

The working group recommended seminary reforms and constitution of the special anti-terrorism courts.

Jamaat Islami opposed establishment of the military courts. The party representative argued that the existing judicial system has punished the culprits and opposed formation of military courts in presence of the constitution and the law. JI leader also argued that the military courts will bypass the existing judicial system.

The participants of the meeting setting aside the objection raised by the JI agreed overconstitution of the military courts.

Amongst 17 recommendations of the working group the committee agreed over eight in the session. Remaining points will be tackled in the next session today.

Federal ministers Chaudhry Nisar Ali and Ishaq Dar met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during the interval of the session and consulted over the National Action Plan.
