Three names shortlisted for CEC

ISLAMABAD: The government and opposition on Wednesday shortlisted three names for appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah named three retired judges and a serving judge for the post.

Sources said that Chief Justice of Shariah Court Sardar Raza, Justice (retd.) Tanveer Ahmed, Justice (retd.) Tariq Pervaiz were shortlisted for the post.

The names were finalised after consultation via telephonic conversation between the premier and the opposition leader while the finance minister also took part in the discussion.

It is worthy to mention here that the federal government had given a deadline for the CEC appointment till December 5 and warned the federal authorities to take back the services of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali who is performing duties as interim CEC.
