Pakistan thrash New Zealand by 249 runs in first Test

ABU DHABI: Pakistan humiliated New Zealand by 249 runs in their first Test on Thursday at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium.

Chasing 480, New Zealand were bowled out for just 231. Skipper Brandon McCullum scored 39 runs and Ish Sodhi struck 63.

Yasir Shah took three wickets, while Zulfiqar Babar, Rahat Ali, and Imran Khan grabbed two wickets each for Pakistan.

Earlier, Pakistan declared the second innings at 175 thanks to the brilliant century of Mohammad Hafeez, setting 480 runs target for the visitors.

First Innings:

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision turned out to be a good one for Pakistan as green shirts set 566 runs total on loss of three wickets only before declaring the innings.

Opener Ahmed Shehzad scored outstanding 176  runs before getting hit wicket on Corey Anderson’s bouncer which fractured his skull. Younis Khan yet again showed his class performance and completed another century while skipper Misbahul Haq scored his third consecutive century in three innings.

Corey Anderson took two wickets for New Zealand.

Green Shirts restricted the Kiwis to 262 runs. Opener Tom Latham scored brilliant 103 runs while Corey Anderson contributed 48 runs to the total.

Rahat Ali took four wickets while Zulfiqar Baber picked up three wickets for the Green Shirts.
