MULTAN: The three-member committee constituted by Punjab government to probe into the stampede after PTI public meeting visited Qasim Bagh Stadium and inspected the site of the tragedy.
Secretary Environment Iqbal Muhammad Chauhan, DIG Ali Amir and Special Secretary Interior Dr Shoaib Akbar are members of the committee, which has been directed to present a report to the provincial chief minister in the next two to three days.
It is to be mentioned here that at least seven people were killed and more than 100 wounded in the stampede at the Qasim Bagh Stadium minutes after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally concluded on October 10.
The commotion started when power supply to the families’ section was cut off and they moved towards the gate reserved for youngsters.
Meanwhile, PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, while addressing a press conference in Multan, blamed DCO Multan Zahid Saleem Gondal for the stampede.
He said that Gondal was hiding facts by giving wrong statements. Qureshi blamed the administration for putting PTI chairperson Imran Khan’s life in danger.
