Colombo test: Sri Lanka scores 305 runs on loss of 5 wickets against South Africa

COLOMBO: First day of Second test belonged to Sri Lankan batsmen, as they manage to score 305 runs on loss of 5 wickets against South Africa played on Thursday at Sinhalese sports club ground.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Host were struggling in the beginning of the innings as they lost two curtail wickets of Kumar Sangakkara and Upul Tharanga.

Host needed a special innings from their experienced pro Mahela Jayawardane, as he responded equally with unbeaten 140 runs while Kaushal Silva played a supporting hand with his 44 runs.

Skipper Angelo Mathews played a vital knock of 68 runs to reach the total of 300 runs on loss of 5 wickets.

Dale Steyn and Jean Paul Duminy took 2 wickets for the visitors.
