India releases nine Pakistani prisoners after sentence expiration

LAHORE: Nine prisoners held by Indian security forces has been handed over the Pakistani authorities after expiration of their sentence period in India on Friday.


Indian authorities handed over nine Pakistani prisoners to Rangers on Wagah border, the only road border crossing between Pakistan and India, located near Lahore.

The prisoners include five fishermen and four local citizens, which were handed over the Pakistani security forces today.

Earlier on July 1, both countries had exchanged prisoners’ lists under an 2008’s agreement made to exchange detainees information twice a year.
