Model Town Incident: JC grants 4-day time to Sanaullah, Tauqeer Shah to record statements

LAHORE: The judicial commission (JC) , inquiring into the Model Town police firing incident in Lahore , has granted four days time to former Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah and former principal secretary Tauqeer Shah to record their statements.

While the commission granted exemption to IG Punjab from appearing before the commission.

Rana Sanaullah pleaded to the court for some time for submitting his statement on oath in the commission.

He said maintenance of law and order was a responsibility and called the incident as regretful.

Former principal secretary to the chief minister, Dr Tauqeer Shah also appeared before the inquiry commission.

The tribunal had also summoned other government officials to submit their reports over the incident.

Justice Najafi said that Rana Sanaullah and Tauqeer Shah should record their statements by Monday, saying that they could be summoned again if the need arose.

The commission ordered the interior secretary, commissioner and CPO Lahore to appear on the next hearing of the case.

The commission also ordered the sons of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Tahirul Qadri to appear before the commission whie the commission also directed medical superintendents of Jinnah hospital, Sir Ganga Ram hospital and services hospital to submit the medical reports of the injured and the postmortem reports of the deceased of the incident before the commission.

Earlier, the inquiry tribunal resumed its probe into the tragedy on Thursday, former Punjab minister of law Rana Sanaullah, former principal secretary Tauqeer Shah and IG Punjab appeared before the judicial commission inquiring into the Model Town police firing incident in Lahore in which at least 12 workers of Tehreek e Minhajul Quran lost their lives and scores of others were injured.

The former provincial law minister was surrounded by parliamentarians, lawyers and PML-N workers when he arrived to appear before the tribunal.

It is to be mentioned here that the incident took place on June 17 in which over a dozen people were killed while more than 100 injured. Following the incident, Rana Sanaullah lost his position as the law minister.
