ISLAMABAD: Pakistani authorities have started prominent efforts for provision of relief to the thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) after commencement of large-scale military operation in tribal parts.
The Pakistan’s Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) established a control room for IDPs of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) operation against militants.
The control room would work with coordination of Crisis Communication Cell in order to provide welfare for the displaced tribal persons.
The establishment of the control room has been made under special directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif; that would provide cash assistance to the needy persons.
According to the ministry’s statement, approximately Rs14 million has also been disbursed for facilitating the displaced nationals. Moreover, family food baskets were also being distributed amongst IDPs with assistance of World Food Programme.
Pakistan Army also established 34 relief centers for collecting donations currently facilitating the tribal displaced persons.
On the other hand, Punjab government set up Chief Minister’s relief funds for NWA IDPs after formal announcement of CM Shahbaz Sharif, who initially deposited Rs500 million funds.
It should be mentioned that CM Punjab, provincial ministers and other high-level officials dedicated their one month salary for the IDPs’ fund.
According to Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Disaster Management Authority’s statistics, at least 423,666 persons were displaced till yet as military operation entered in its 5th day.
The officials detailed that the IDPs comprising of 34,625 families including 111,241 men, 133,722 women and 178,000 children belonging to different tribal areas.
