LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued stay order for coal power project approved in Sheikhupura, Punjab here on Thursday.
A plea was filed in LHC against the power project by local environmentalists citing the fact that it will increase environmental pollution in the city, reports said.
District Coordination Office (DCO) of Punjab admitted in the court that environmental hazards of the project were not assessed before approving it.
LHC ultimately halted the project for now, stating that the court cannot allow anybody to play with the health of local people.
Government had allotted 9,000 acres of land for this project in Sheikupura.
