RIYADH: Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Abdulaziz al-Shaikh has given a fatwa against people who violate traffic signals, reported Al Arabiya News Channel.
Abdulaziz al-Shaikh is the senior most religious authority in Saudi Arabia and he has declared jumping red traffic light as ‘major sin’ in the light of a verse from Quran, “If you kill one person unjustly it is as if you killed the whole humanity, and if you saved one person it is as if you saved the whole humanity.”
It’s interesting to note that car accidents in Saudi Arabia are rampant and causes an average of 17 deaths a day.
And a report, conducted in 2010, suggested that one-third of these car accidents were because of breaking traffic signals.
