MIRPUR: An unbeaten 111 runs innings by Pakistani opener Ahmed Shehzad facilitated Pakistan cricket team to an easy win over hosts Bangladesh in a Group 2 match of ICC World Twenty 20.
Pakistan cricket team beat Bangladesh 50 runs, a heavy and much needed margin to stay in the tournament.
Shehzad’s century was the first ever by any Pakistani in the Twenty20 format of the game and he celebrated his ton by jumping up in the air, here at Shere Bangla National Stadium.
Shehzad hit 5 sixes and 10 fours.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat.
Thanks to Ahmed Shehzad, Pakistan made a massive 190 runs in 20 overs.
None of the other Pakistani batsman scored much but Shahid Afridi provided some late impetus by scoring 22 runs in 9 balls.
Bangladesh spinner Abdur Razzak took 2 wickets by conceding 20 runs.
Bangladesh even could not start well as Pakistani pacer Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal did not let them play with ease.
Shakib Al Hasan was the top scorer with 38 runs off 32 balls.
Umar Gul took 3 wickets while Saeed Ajmal had two.
Bangladesh could only score 140 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
Pakistan’s win has taken Bangladesh along with a Big Three Guru team ‘Australia’ out of tournament.
Ahmed Shahzad was given ‘Man of the Match’ award.
